Due to ongoing drought conditions and to ensure sustainable water usage, the city of Mesquite, TX has announced new water restrictions effective from April 1, 2024. Outdoor Watering Schedule
Allowed Days and Times:
- Residential Addresses Ending in Even Numbers (0, 2, 4, 6, 8):
- Outdoor watering is allowed on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
- Permissible hours: 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
- Residential Addresses Ending in Odd Numbers (1, 3, 5, 7, 9):
- Outdoor watering is allowed on Thursdays and Sundays.
- Permissible hours: 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
- Commercial Properties and Common Areas:
- Outdoor watering is allowed on Tuesdays and Fridays.
- Permissible hours: 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
- Residential Addresses Ending in Even Numbers (0, 2, 4, 6, 8):
Prohibited Times:
- No outdoor watering is allowed on Mondays.
- Watering is prohibited between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM on any day.
Exceptions
- Hand Watering: Permitted at any time using a handheld hose equipped with a positive shut-off nozzle, or a watering can.
- Drip Irrigation Systems: Permitted at any time.
- Watering of New Lawns and Landscaping: Exempt for the first 30 days; a variance request must be submitted and approved by the city.
Additional Restrictions
- Fountains and Water Features: Operation of ornamental fountains and water features is prohibited, except for those that recycle water.
- Vehicle Washing: Personal vehicle washing is allowed only on designated watering days and times using a hand-held bucket or a hose equipped with a positive shut-off nozzle. Commercial car washes are exempt.
- Swimming Pools: Filling or refilling of swimming pools is restricted to designated watering days and times.

Failure to comply with these water restrictions will result in the following penalties:
- First Violation: Written warning.
- Second Violation: $100 fine.
- Third Violation: $200 fine.
- Subsequent Violations: Fines up to $500 per violation and potential installation of a flow restrictor.
